Dorset Association of Parish & Town Councils and Community Resilience

Since 2023, Dorset Prepared has worked alongside the Dorset Association of Parish and Town Councils to deliver the resilience message across Dorset.

This case study occurred during 2023.  During 2026 Dorset Prepared will be updating its approach to working with DAPTC.

Following an initial meeting with the Chief Executive, Neil Wedge, we have delivered guidance and information through talks and presentations across a number of resilience related subjects both in person and online.

During 2023, Dorset Prepared has attended the Parish and Town Council Clerks Seminar at Kingston Maurward, providing information on both community and personal resilience, engaging with a number of Parish and Town Clerks discussing ongoing resilience engagement.

On 10 October 2023 Dorset Prepared commenced a series of Winter Preparedness presentations, initially via Zoom, and also a face-to-face delivery of this presentation on 12th October to the Northern Area Association Members, in Blandford Forum. On 16th October, a further presentation was carried out via Zoom, during which there was also a presentation delivered by the Community Response Team Coordinator from Langton Herring and Rodden, regarding the development of their Community Emergency Response Plan and from Linda Kettley from Firewise on how to protect your home from the risk of wildfire.

Clare was invited to deliver information and guidance on Community Resilience for the DAPTC Website back in October. Information can now be found on the Website regarding:

  • UK Government’s Approach to Resilience and how Clare meets this requirement, locally.
  • The importance of Preparation.
  • Personal and Community/Societal Resilience.
  • Identifying and looking after vulnerable people and those who need additional support.
  • CRLO talks, presentations and community events.

Clare’s next event for the DAPTC will be the Dorset Association of Parish & Town Councils Conference at Kingston Maurward on Thursday 7 March, 08:15-12:30, where she will be with her stand, ready to explain her role, discuss individual and community resilience and plan some future events in support of the communities of Dorset.
