The Dorset Civil Contingencies Unit (CCU)

This small team sits at the heart of the Dorset Local Resilience Forum (LRF)

We are an experienced team of emergency planners who support front line public services such as the police, fire, coastguard and ambulance, local Councils, health services and the Environment Agency in planning for, responding to and recovering from emergency incidents.  We make up the Dorset Civil Contingencies Unit (CCU) and form part of the Dorset Local Resilience Forum (DLRF).

We bring partners together when a big incident happens in Dorset.

The CCU has four main roles:

  • To provide a 24hr 365 day a year on-call ability to bring front line agencies together in an emergency and provide response advice
  • To assess local and national risks and write Dorset Prepared Multi-Agency Response Plans in preparation
  • To provide training and arrange opportunities for staff to rehearse and practice incident response procedures
  • To support all Local Resilience forum meetings

 

The CCU reports to the LRF Executive Group which is made up senior leaders from across the partnership agencies.

The LRF partnership is made up of the following organisations:

Dorset Police

South Western Ambulance Service

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service

HM Coastguard

BCP Council

Dorset Council

British Transport Police

Environment Agency

NHS Services in Dorset

UK Health Security Agency

Other partners who play a vital role in emergency planning are, the Met Office, National Highways, and transport and utility companies, such as electricity, gas and water suppliers in the Dorset area.

We also work extensively with voluntary organisations across Dorset, and with national charities.

Executive Group

The Executive Group is chaired by the Chief Constable of Dorset and is responsible for setting the priorities for the Dorset Local Resilience Forum.
